Columbia residents express more fears after latest Columbia shooting on Providence Road
It’s a highly traveled road. Many take it to work every day.
AndSunday night,Providence Road became the scene of the latest Columbia shooting.
This incident has some long-time residents feeling disheartened and afraid.
“It’s scary, because anybody could be shot just standing around, driving by,” said Columbia resident Sidney Brown.
Brown said he travels Providence Road to get to and from work daily.
He said his concerns are more than just the shootings themselves.
Brown said it’s the random locations that have him on edge.
“There’s just no predicting where,”hesaid.
Browntold ABC 17Newshe moved to Columbia in 1982 and said he feels crime has increased exponentially.
While arrests have been made, everyone ABC 17 News talked to downtown said they were fearful of those who may be involved and are still walking the streets.
Some were afraid to go on camera for fear of becoming a target.
Brown says he doesn’t want a citizen just passing by to end up in the middle of crossfire.
“Innocent victims being shot, just innocent bystanders…that is my biggest concern,” he said.
Brown and other citizens say they hope police and the city will be able to get the recent crime under control.
