Missouri veterans honored with Silver Star medal
Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander presented four veterans with the Silver Star banner and certificate during a ceremony Wednesday morning.
The Silver Star medal honors veterans’ dedication and sacrifice. All of the recipients, including two from Mid-Missouri, served during times of war and were wounded or sustained serious injury.
John Clark of Columbia was honored for his service during the Vietnam War. Clark graduated from the University of Missouri before serving in the Air Force.
He spent six years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnamese prison camps.
A Jefferson City veteran, Bob Proctor, served in Afghanistan. He joined the army after graduating from high school, then completed college and joined the Missouri National Guard.
As a member of the National Guard, he was deployed to serve in Afghanistan.
Two other Missouri veterans, Tom Abrams of Piedmont and John Harlow of Annapolis, also received Silver Star honors. Abrams and Harlow both served in Vietnam.
Harlow previously received a Purple Heart medal after surviving an explosion in his platoon, killing three soldiers and injuring eight.
