Shots Fired at Student Housing
A large party ended up with bullets flying into the air at a student housing parking lot in Columbia early Saturday morning. Around 2:08 a.m., police were sent to Gateway Apartments at 3900 Buttonwood Drive to investigate reports of around three-to-eight shots fired.A student who lives there said she saw a large party gathered in the parking lot and said she heard yelling and shouting from her balcony. “It looked like at least 50 people were out here, some of them in their cars and by the bus stop,” said Samantha Janas, a junior attending the University of Missouri. Janas said there are parties at the student housing but last night’s crowd was the biggest she has seen.”It makes me nervous,” said Janas, who said she learned about the shots being fired an hour later, through friends who saw eight police patrol vehicles. Police say they found four shell casings in the parking lot just east of building 3906, with no reports of injuries and/or buildings property being damaged. As of Saturday afternoon, there are no victims or suspect information, according to Officer Latisha Stroer.
