2/23: Potential Winter Storm

***UPDATE SATURDAY 5 P.M.***Our next winter storm is on the way to Mid-Missouri Monday and Tuesday. Forecast models have continued to shift the storm farther to the south and slower. Precipitation will likely begin as rain by midday Monday and continue through the late afternoon. Colder air will move in on the backside of the storm, changing the rain to snow in central and northern sections of Mid-Missouri by Monday evening and then all snow overnight into Tuesday morning.Heavy snow is possible overnight with snowfall rates of 1-2″ per hour likely along and north of I-70. Areas of Mid-Missouri that see those heavier bands of snow could see significant snowfall totals of 6-10″. Periods of minor, light snow will be possible through Tuesday afternoon and even on Wednesday as the storm system exits to the east. While the models are coming into agreement on the track of this storm, any northward/southward shift in the track could lead to very different results are far as rain or snow amounts are concerned. We will continuously update the forecast throughout the weekend to pinpoint timing as well as precipitation types and amounts.Stay with abc17news.com and ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather for the latest on this winter storm by following us on Twitter (@ABC17Stormtrack) and on Facebook.
