12/20: Winter Storm Update

*********Thursday Late-Morning Update********Snow will continue to spread across Mid-Missouri with strong northwest winds. Gusts may be as high as 45-50 mph. Snowfall amounts will range from 1 to 3 inches. Blowing snow will reduce visibilities to less than a mile as the snow falls. Snow will end from west to east between noon to 4pm. Temperatures will continue to slowly drop into the upper 20s with wind chills in the low teens during the afternoon.Be aware that side-streets, untreated roads, bridges and overpasses may be slick. Travelers should expect slow travel through the day.======================================================A strong surface low pressure area will move into northeastern Missouri by daybreak with much colder, windy weather moving in behind it. A band of light rain on the backside of this low will quickly change over to snow from 6-7 AM near HWY 65 and from 8-9 AM near HWY 63. Surface air temperatures will be falling to near freezing as the changeover occurs with increasing northwesterly winds, gusting to 40-50 mph at times. The combination of moderate snow and strong winds will cause reduced visibilities. Initially roads will be wet due to warm overnight temperatures but as temperatures fall and moderate snow moves in, less traveled and untreated roads, bridges and overpasses will quickly become slick. Travelers should expect slow travel during the morning commute.Tune to ABC 17 News This Morning from 5-7 a.m. for the latest weather and road conditions.
