Officials Work on Sales Tax

Boone County officials discussed details of the 911 Center sales tax at a meeting on Thursday.Officials discussed the finances as well as the new Joint Communications building. The plans for the building estimate it to be around 21,000 square feet.”We’re also looking to hire 20 full time employees to fill 4 positions,” Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey said.According to Boone County Presiding Commissioner Dan Atwill, it’s still unknown what the exact cost of the tax will be.”The possibility of a 3/8th cent sales tax was discussed. It would produce $9 million annually and would enable us to pay off the initial expense and continue maintenance and personnel costs indefinitely,” Atwill said. Officials will meet again on January 11th.
