Gun Rally in the Capitol City
There was a massive gun rally Saturday at the State Capitol as gun violence and gun control continue to dominate a national discussion. Around 700 people rallied at in Jefferson City to protest gun control, standing up for the second amendment, the right to bear arms.Now that the white house has issued some executive orders including an assault weapons ban, the statehouse is wrestling with ways to address violence in the wake of aurora and Newtown.At the same time many here in Missouri are hoping lawmakers hear their voice in this large debate. “We are supporting our second amendment rights and pretty much with the new legislation going on we want to make our voices heard,” said Kenny Parks who organized the rally.Other people who attended the rally had similar thoughts. Darrin Haley and his whole family drove to the capitol city from Joplin, he said “to be able to keep what we have now and keep everything the way it is, if the second amendment falls everything else falls right behind it.”The group publicly protested the president’s idea to curb gun control, and some voiced the need for gun free zones to be eliminated.Today’s rally in Jefferson City was one of many held in 49 states across the country.
