Former Bank Worker Facing Prison
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – A Jefferson City woman has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for embezzling more than $540,000 from two former employers, including a bank.The U.S. Attorney’s office says 52-year-old Kelley Lee Steiner must also pay restitution of nearly $665,000 under the sentence she received Thursday.Steiner was an officer of Jefferson Bank from 1999 to late 2008. She pleaded guilty last February to embezzling $487,000 from the bank and the personal checking account of its president. She also admitted stealing $54,000 from Modern Business Systems, another former employer.Steiner used some of the stolen money to pay credit card bills and her children’s college expenses.Prosecutors said Steiner defrauded the government of about $144,000 in federal taxes by failing to report the money as income.
