Chase Leads to Theft Arrests

A traffic stop leads to a chase through south Columbia and the arrest of two teens accused of stealing electronics.Columbia police tried to pull over 19-year-old Zachery Smith near Grindstone Parkway and Rock Quarry Road Friday at 6:45 p.m. The car took off and crashed on Green Meadows where two teens got out and ran. Officers chased 17-year-old Christopher Reedy to a nearby McAllisters restaurant, but lost Smith after a 45 minute search.According to a news release, investigators found an Apple laptop linked to an earlier burglary inside Smith’s car. They also found a gun and some prescription pills with Smith’s name and address on them.Saturday morning, officers arrested Smith at a home on Loch Lane.Both teens had bonded out of jail Saturday night. They each could face tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property charges. Smith could also face a slew of traffic charges for the chase.
