Hy-Vee recalls bagged salad over contamination concerns
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Hy-Vee is recalling salad over potential contamination concerns.
The recall affects the 12 oz. Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad product. The company says it may be contaminated with Cyclospora.
Hy-vee said it became aware of the issue after Fresh Express, the company that manufactures the product, announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) have been investigating an outbreak of Cyclospora.
Investigators believe certain products, including Fresh Express’
private label products at retailers across the nation were affected.
The 12 oz. Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad was distributed to
Hy-Vee grocery stores in eight states, including Missouri. According to a spokesperson, no other Hy-Vee food products are affected by this recall.
So far the company has not taken any reports of illness linked to the salad.
According to a news release, symptoms of cyclosporiasis begin an average of seven days after the ingestion of Cyclospora. Symptoms could include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, cramping, bloating,
increased gas, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, and low-grade fever.
The company said anyone who bought the affected salad should throw it away or take it back to the store for a refund.
The company says that anyone with questions can contact Hy-Vee Customer Care by calling 1-800-772-4098.
