Columbia contractor charged in Boone County with poor business practices

Boone County Jail

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Attorney General's Office has charged a Columbia contractor accused of poor business practices.

Blake J. Mahoney, 28, of Columbia, was arrested and charged in Boone County last month with four felony counts of financial exploitation of an elderly or disabled person, according to public court records. Mahoney is also charged with seven felony counts of deceptive business practice.

Public court records show the alleged crimes happened between August 2018 and March 2021.

Mahoney operated Mo State Construction LLC, according to the Better Business Bureau. A spokeswoman said several Columbia-area customers reported issues with the business, including failing to start or finish projects.

The Better Business Bureau issued a consumer warning about doing business with Mahoney in February 2021.

Mahoney is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $100,000 bond. A court hearing is scheduled for Mahoney on March 7 at 9 a.m.
