Last day for the public to provide feedback to MoDOT for I-70 in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY,Mo. (KMIZ)

Sunday is the last day for community members to give MoDOT their input on alternative improvements they are considering for I-70 and the I-70/ U.S. Route 63 Connector.

Those road changes would happen to the 18 miles of I-70, East of route BB at exit 115 to East of Route Z at exit 133 here in Boone County.

The need for public comment is all a part of MoDOT's study to find ways to improve the interstate and the connector for travel.

According to MoDOT's presentation to the community, they split up I-70 into western, central, and eastern sections of focus.

MoDOT'S Improve I-70 Project

In the western section of I-70, MoDOT, is considering reconstructing the diamond interchange at Routes J and O, while improving area outer roads.

In the central section, MoDOT is looking to provide a dedicated right turning lane for West Bound Business Loop to the East Bound I-70 on ramp.

In the eastern area, MoDOT is wanting to add fly over ramps from North Bound U.S.63 to West Bound Bound I-70 and East Bound I-70 to South Bound U.S. 63.

The I-70/U.S. Route 63 Connector Reconfiguration was added to MoDOT' S 2023-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and was already approve on July 6. according to MoDOT.

That project is estimated to cost $140 million dollars. The current alternatives are just a few options MoDOT's has presented in their document to the community for consideration.

Individuals can find the feedback form and more details about possible road improvements in I-70 Project on MoDOT's website.

Modot wants the community to note while plans for improvements to the roads are being made, they are still working on a solution for pedestrian and bicycle accommodations for all changes and will present all alternatives at future meetings.
