Two survivors rescued after landslide buried homes in freezing weather in southwest China, 11 died

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese state media say 11 people died after a landslide buried 47 people in a remote, mountainous part of the southwestern province of Yunnan. Two survivors were rescued amid freezing temperatures and falling snow. The disaster struck just before 6 a.m. on Monday in the village of Liangshui in the northeastern part of Yunnan. About 500 people were evacuated from the area. Local authorities said the victims were buried in some 18 separate houses. Survivors and rescuers were dealing with snow and freezing temperatures that were forecast to persist for at least the next three days.
