SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o made his first public appearance on campus in nearly a decade since it was disclosed he was the victim of a bizarre high-profile catfishing scheme involving a fake girlfriend. Te’o spoke briefly before Notre Dame’s game against California to a crowd in front of Touchdown Jesus, saying to it was good to be home. He attended Mass with the team at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus and then walked with the team to the stadium. He told the enthusiastic fans the 0-2 Irish needed their support. Te’o later told the media he was pleasantly surprised by the response he received from the Netflix documentary “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist.” He said the response has been positive.
