2 killed, scores wounded in clashes on Kyrgyz-Tajik border

MOSCOW (AP) — Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have traded blame for fighting on the border that has killed at least two people and wounded dozens. Kyrgyzstan’s Health Ministry says clashes that started early Friday had killed two people, including a 15-year-old girl, and wounded 87 more, most of whom were hospitalized. It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted the fighting or the renewed shelling later in the evening. The border the two former Soviet nations share is often a tense area. The presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan met Friday at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Uzbekistan and discussed the border hostilities.
