After a very brief warmup Tuesday, winter returns to close out the week
THIS AFTERNOON: Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this afternoon. Temperatures will top out ~5 degrees above average with lots of sunshine. Winter will make a return and conditions will be cold and unsettled through at LEAST the middle of next week. Today IS the day to get out. Winds will shift to the southeast up to 8 mph aiding the warmup.
TONIGHT: Clouds build tonight ahead of a cold front. With moisture present we will start to see spotty showers and the possibility of drizzle through the night. As temperatures drop below freezing some light precip could freeze on surfaces. The threat for ice will be maintained for our far northwestern counties. Winds shift out of the northwest through the night creating for wind chills in the low 20s through the morning.
EXTENDED: Behind the cold front temperatures only climb into the upper 30s through Wednesday, eventually leading to a colder Wednesday night and Thursday. There is a chance of a light wintry mix late Wednesday night into early Thursday as an upper level disturbance passes through. A glaze to a tenth inch of ice is possible from this which could lead to some slick roads for the Thursday morning commute with highest ice amounts south of I-70. We’ll stay in the low to mid 30s Thursday but will warm back to near 40 Friday before arctic air arrives for the first weekend of March. Light rain and snow is possible Friday into Friday night but at this time, little to no snow accumulation is expected. Highs will only reach into the 20s Saturday, dropping into the single digits Saturday night. The arctic air looks like it will hang around through the weekend with a slight snow chance Sunday.
