Boone County home “significantly damaged” in fire

Boone County fire investigators are working to find out what caused a home to catch fire in northern Boone County on Calvert Hill Road near Boatman Hill Road.

Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the fire started in the shed and spread to the house around mid-morning.

A passerby called 911 first and then a child in the home woke up to fire crackling around her bedroom window.

Blomenkamp said there was “heavy” fire damage to the bedroom and hallway. There was severe heat and smoke damage done to the rest of the home.

Five people, including three children, lived in the home. They made it out safely.

One cat died in the fire.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
