Secondary cold front to bring dangerous cold into Mid-Missouri

****DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS ARE SET TO IMACT MID-MISSOURI TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY, WITH WIND CHILL READINGS AS LOW AS -25. ALL COUNTIES ARE EITHER UNDER AN ADVISORY OR A WIND CHILL WARNING****

TONIGHT: It will be a dangerously cold night with clearing skies through the night. Overnight lows will bottom out near 9 degrees with breezy conditions sticking around. Winds will be out of the northwest up to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 24. This will make it feel even colder outside, with many locations seeing wind chills near -5 degrees by tomorrow morning. Make sure you cover any exposed skin and limit your time outside.

TUESDAY: Little relief is expected for Tuesday, as a secondary cold front is set to track through the region. Following the bitterly cold start to the day, highs will only top out in the low ot mid 20s along and south of I-70, with areas north remaining in the teens. This comes as another cold front brings a strong surge of Arctic air. Ahead of the cold front isolated snow showers are possible, with little to no accumulation expected. The biggest impacts will be with the breezy winds and wind chills falling below zero into the evening hours for Tuesday.

EXTENDED: Overnight lows Tuesday will fall to near -7 for a large portion of Mid-Missouri, with even colder wind chill values. Many locations will experience wind chill readings Tuesday night into Wednesday morning anywhere from -20 to -30. Wind chill readings this low will allow for frostbite to occur within 30 minutes. Little improvement is expected through the day Wednesday, as afternoon highs will only top out near 4 degrees. This will be a dangerous stretch of weather, especially if you are going to be outdoors. A large portion of Mid-Misouri will see 24+ hours of wind chill readings below zero, making any prolonged period outside dangerous. Thankfully, the bitter cold will be short-lived, albeit dangerous. The rest of the week will see a slow warming trend, with afternoon highs approaching the mid 40s by Saturday. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
