Two people charged following Sedalia drug bust

Prosecutors have filed charges against two people who were arrested after police searched a home in Sedalia.

Douglas C. Burlingame, 51, of Sedalia, and Laura L. Martin, 29, of Sedalia, were taken into custody around 5:41 a.m. Friday.

Police said Burlingame and Martin were found with a minor inside a home in the 1400 block of S. Stewart Ave., which is about 200 feet from Horace Mann Elementary School.

According to police, a drug dog helped officers discover methamphetamine, heroin, prescription pills, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home.

Police said the evidence led officers to believe the home was being used to sell meth.

Burlingame is charged with distribution of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child and drug possession.

Martin has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts of drug possession.

Both are scheduled to appear in Pettis County court in February.
