Flurries today, with bitterly cold Arctic air overnight

****WEATHER ALERT DAY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING, AS DANGEROUSLY COLD TEMPERATURES TRACKS INTO THE REGION****

TODAY: It will be a bitterly cold day. Northwesterly winds will increase to 15-20 mph as clouds move back in. Snow flurries are possible this afternoon to early evening but no accumulation is expected. High temperatures will only reach the mid 20s, with wind chills through most of the day staying in the low to mid teens.

TONIGHT: Clouds will once again clear out through the night as high pressure builds in on the back of an Arctic front. Although winds will subside through the evening, it will still be dangerously cold. Overnight lows will bottom out near 4 degrees, with wind chill readings as low as 12 below. Take the necessary cold weather preparations for Friday morning as you head out the door.

EXTENDED: A northwesterly air flow aloft will drive upper level waves and reinforcing shots of arctic air into the region from Friday through next Monday. With these, brief periods of light snow are possible but moisture will be limited. If snow does develop with any of these waves, it would be light with only minor accumulation. As of now it looks like we could see light snow Friday afternoon with the best chance in our northeastern counties and again Saturday night but timing could change. We will stay below freezing from Friday through Saturday, warming just above freezing Sunday and Monday before another arctic front moves in, dropping us into the teens Tuesday. We’ll also pick up another chance of a wintry mix or snow Monday as that colder air moves back in. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
