University of Missouri residence hall death under investigation

University of Missouri police are investigating after a student was found unresponsive in a residence hall on the first day of classes and died in his room.

Boston Perry, 19, a junior information technologies major from Bethalto, Illinois, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in Mark Twain residence hall, the University of Missouri Police Department said in a news release. Police were called to help medics with an unconscious man who was not breathing at about 2:30 p.m., the release said.

Perry was pronounced dead at the scene and his cause of death hasn’t been determined, MUPD said.

“As a father myself, I can only express my deepest condolences to Boston’s parents and family,” Gary Ward, vice chancellor for operations, said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with them, his friends and classmates during this difficult time.”

MU is providing counseling to students and others who knew Perry.
