Tracking a wetter pattern into next week

TODAY: We're waking up to another familiar start this morning. Temperatures in the mid 60s under mostly clear skies to start will give way to a warm up to near 90 this afternoon. Clouds will increase throughout the day. A field of low to mid level cumulus clouds will likely develop, but also a cold front approaching from the north may thicken cloud cover for some to the north late this afternoon. Only an isolated shower or storm is possible later this afternoon and evening as the front passes through. Placement of the best chance of development looks to be north of I-70.

TONIGHT: Anything that gets going this evening will dissipate after sunset. Clouds linger overnight. Temperatures drop just into the upper 60s, and winds shift out of the north behind the front.

EXTENDED: By Friday, the front may be south of the viewing area. If this is the case, we can cut rain chances from the forecast. As of now, that is the case for the area as a whole. Still, if I had plans at the lake or along any southern edge counties near I-44 Friday afternoon, I'd watch radar for a possible pop-up shower or storm. Activity will still remain isolated. Saturday starts dry, but a chance for storms will enter the forecast Saturday evening, and grow into Sunday as low level flow increases out of the south and we watch upper level disturbances roll into Missouri from the northwest. This interaction between better moisture and a tumultuous atmosphere will bring chances for scattered storms. Several rounds of disturbances will bring rain chances through Tuesday, with an upper level trough eventually clearing the slate sometime during midweek. This could leave us drier by Wednesday. Overall, temperatures remain in the mid-to-upper 80s, flirting with 90s at times.
