BENI, Congo (AP) — Congo’s health ministry has confirmed a new Ebola case in Congo’s eastern Beni city and say it was linked to a previous outbreak. The woman was hospitalized in July with Ebola symptoms and died Aug. 15. The ministry says the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Goma confirmed the case was genetically linked to Congo’s 10th outbreak in Ituri and North Kivu provinces from 2018 to 2020. More than 130 high-risk contacts have been identified, of which 71 have been seen. The ministry says the others are at large, calling on the population to stay calm and respect hygienic measures. Congo has recorded 14 Ebola outbreaks since the virus was discovered in the country in 1976.
