Witnesses say duo was eager to kidnap Michigan governor

A jury in western Michigan has heard from two key witnesses in the trial of two men charged with conspiring to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020. Barry Croft Jr., of Delaware, and Adam Fox, who is from the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area, were fully onboard and very eager to carry out the plan, according to Ty Garbin and Kaleb Franks, who pleaded guilty in the case and agreed to help investigators. Fox and Croft are on trial for a second time. A jury in April couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict. Garbin and Franks say together they trained in a remote area, practicing inside a handmade “shoot house.” They say they traveled to northern Michigan at night to see Whitmer’s vacation home and a bridge that could be blown up to distract police.
