Columbia roller rink being sold

Columbia’s only roller rink is being sold.

The owner said Friday in a news release that he is selling the rink, which was built in 1938, to Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity. Willie Trent has been trying to sell the property as a roller rink for several years unsuccessfully, the Trent family said in the release.

The sale will help the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, which operates a resale store to raise funds for its home-building projects, with its expansion, the Trents said.

In a separate release, Show–Me Central Habitat’s director, Austin View, said the organization will use the building to house its resale shop, called the ReStore. The organization expects to finish the move before July.

A final day of skating is scheduled for Jan. 6.
