Tapping into colder air into the final days of the year
FRIDAY: It will be much colder with highs in the mid 30s with wind chills in the 20s. Skies will gradually break up to partly cloudy skies by late afternoon with west to northwest winds at 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. Winds will slowly diminish through the evening.
TONIGHT: Skies will remain partly cloudy tonight as temperatures continue to drop through the night. Overnight lows by morning will be in the teens with wind chills in the low teens. Winds will be out of the northwest 6-10 mph.
EXTENDED: The cold Canadian air continues to filter into Mid-Missouri as we head into the weekend, bringing many locations the coldest air of the season. High temperatures will only reach the freezing mark Saturday, dropping to near 20 overnight. Sunshine returns Sunday and it will be warmer with highs in the low 40s. By Sunday night light rain showers will be approaching from the south. Past midnight showers will lift into our area moving north. The unsettled weather continues early Monday with a chance of rain for the first half of the day as another surge of cold air arrives for the start of 2019. We’ll reach the low 40s Monday but will bitterly cold for New Year’s Day with high temperatures only reaching the mid 20s. With temperatures dropping into the New Year’s morning and with moisture still present across our area, we could see some brief, light snow showers early Tuesday morning. Wind chills will start off in the single digits to start of the year and stay in the teens in the afternoon as the cold breeze continues. Temperatures will slowly warm as we head through next week.
