Mizzou football looks to grow toughness and intensity
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Heading into the final week of fall camp, Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz said he wants to build on his team's identity before the Tigers kick off against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 1. Specifically, Drinkwitz said he wanted more toughness and intensity from his guys.
"I didn't think today we finished or attacked the last three periods in the red zone with nearly enough intensity or fire," he said. "It just felt like we were going through the motions and that's not good enough for us if we want to take a step as a program. If we're content with being average that's fine, we can pat them on the back and give away popsicles."

Drinkwitz noted that he does like the togetherness and chemistry of his team so far through fall camp. Defensively, lineman Arden Walker said it's all about stacking days.
"I think since fall camp, or just even we started in the summer, everybody was talking about our identity being toughness. I think we're going to be a tough football team," he said.

The position battles are still raging on through camp. Specifically, Drinkwitz said the competition for punter has mostly been narrowed down to two guys. He added there is still a third punter involved, but he hasn't been as consistent.

As far as running backs go, coach Eli said that both Nathaniel Peat and Tavorus Jones have been limited due to soft tissue injuries. Drinkwitz said Truman State transfer Cody Schrader has stood out this camp, as he's taken the majority of the snaps.
Mizzou will finish its final week of fall camp with a night practice at Faurot Field on Saturday, before the team starts school on Monday. Drinkwitz said prep for Louisiana Tech will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
