Columbia police arrest suspect in overnight shooting

Columbia police said they were called to the Steak n’ Shake on Worley Street for reports of gunfire inside the restaurant just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

Officers found that one gunshot had been fired into the ceiling and the suspect had already left.

Police were able to identify the shooting suspect as Reiss Alan Favinger, 19, of Columbia.

Police discovered that Favinger was an employee at Steak n’ Shake and was upset because of “pending employment issues.”

Officers and a K-9 unit started searching the area of the 1900 block of West Worley Street and a short time later found Favinger with the gun about one block away, police said.

Favinger was arrested and taken to the Boone County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Police said no one was injured during the shooting and the restaurant sustained minor damage.
