Police: Crash near Columbia school result of DWI

A Columbia woman was arrested on Monday after she allegedly drove her child to school while drunk.

Carmelita L. Bowman, 38, was dropping her child off at the intersection of Hickman Avenue and Sixth Street, near Jefferson Middle School, on Monday at approximately 7:30 a.m., according to Jeff Pitts, spokesman for the Columbia Police Department.

Bowman allegedly crashed into another car when she crossed the center line, Pitts said. Her child was still in the car at the time of the crash. After an investigation, police found her Blood Alcohol Content was more than 0.08, which is more than the legal limit.

Bowman faces charges of DWI and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
