Tracking a more mild Thursday, and another warm up this weekend

TODAY: Rain ongoing this morning across the southern third of our counties will continue to push south during the pre-dawn hours. Most will find themselves dry by sunrise, but not before receiving copious amounts of rainfall. There may also be some patchy dense fog across the region with still and moist air sitting at the surface behind the rain. Through the rest of the morning, cloud cover will start thick in the south, before slowly clearing behind the rain. By the afternoon, sun is pouring through a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky across mid-MO. The cold front behind all of this rain will likely stall out over our southern counties this afternoon. Thanks to morning rain and clouds and some northerly wind change, we will likely see highs in the upper 80s and low 90s this afternoon. Late in the afternoon, approaching the evening hours, it is possible we see an isolated storm or two where the boundary has yet to clear moisture aloft.

TONIGHT: This boundary weakens overnight, and skies continue to clear. If winds stay calm enough, and we cool fast enough, more fog may be possible early Friday. Temperatures may start as cool as the low 70s.

EXTENDED: South winds take over on Friday, and with clear skies, this will bump temperatures back into the low 90s area wide. A similar pattern stays for Saturday and Sunday, keeping mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies in the forecast, with highs in the mid-90s. Dewpoints may be greater on Saturday, making it feel like 100-103. By Sunday, dewpoints look to be a few degrees lower, which may help feels like temperatures a hair. Still, the weekend is looking hot until relief comes in the form of another cold front on Monday. Another shot at area wide storms comes Monday along the front. Highs are questionable given the timing of the front, but somewhere near 90 seems reasonable at this point. Cooling is more of a certainty behind the front on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 80s both days.
