Audrain deputy injured in crash, patrol vehicle totaled

An Audrain County deputy is recovering after a traffic crash totaled his patrol vehicle.

The department said Dep. Justin Landis was stopped on eastbound Highway 54 at about 4:50 p.m. Thursday, about to turn onto the property of Van Far High School.

According to the report, another car rear-ended the patrol car at high speed, destroying it and injuring Landis.

The deputy was taken to the hospital and was later released without any serious injuries.

The other driver was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

“Given the circumstances, we’re thankful that all we need to deal with at this point is bent up cars,” said Sheriff Matt Oller.

The sheriff’s statement did not mention possible criminal charges for either driver involved in the crash.
