Tracking strong storms with heavy rain into tonight

TONIGHT: Scattered storms with heavy rain and gusty winds. Rain amounts between 2-4" possible. Lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Patchy fog in the morning with sunshine returning for the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s to around 90 with a heat index in the upper 90s.

EXTENDED: A slow moving cold front will trigger showers and storms this afternoon that could become severe in a highly unstable environment. The window for severe weather will be through about 9:00 p.m. Showers and storms will continue south of I-70 overnight, bringing 2-4" of rainfall for that area. Flash flooding is possible, especially for locations along and south of Highway 50 through late tonight. Clouds and storms exit early on Thursday, leaving us with slightly cooler temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90. As high pressure builds over the region on Friday and into the weekend, temperatures return to the low to mid-90s with heat indices reaching near 100 Saturday and Sunday. A stalled front will be a focal point for a disturbance moving into the area to trigger scattered showers and storms Sunday night into early next week, but temperatures look to remain above average as we'll still be on the periphery of upper high pressure.
