‘Cyber Week’ an opportunity for online thieves

The Better Business Bureau recommends online shoppers use caution to avoid scams and hackers as retailers post deals for “Cyber Week” this week.

Scammers might use an email with a link leading to a website that looks like a legitimate retailer as a method to steal personal or payment information, said BBB Regional Director Michelle Gleba.

“If the site is missing contact information for example that can be a red flag so we encourage people to check BBB’s website to check a company’s business profile before they shop,” she said.

Gleba recommends using a credit card when shopping online instead of debit card or gift card because it offers more protection against fraudulent websites.
