Semi-truck chase began with report of gunfire

A 100-mile chase Saturday night from Kansas City to near Boonville started after a man told police the suspect fired a gun at him.

Dispatchers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Troop A heard Kansas City Police Department radio traffic about the pursuit a little before 9 p.m. Saturday and troopers joined the chase soon after, the patrol said in a news release. The chase ended when the suspect got out of the burning truck, which had been driving on its rims and was not towing a trailer, on Interstate 70 near Boonville and ran into a barbed wire fence, the release said. The patrol said troopers found a bag of methamphetamine, as well.

The truck had possibly been reported to the Oak Grove Police Department as stolen, according to the release.

Kansas City Police Department Capt. Lionel Colon said information about charges against the suspect was not available Tuesday afternoon. KCPD reports provided to ABC 17 News say a man told officers the suspect threatened him with a gun and fired at him outside a mobile home before getting in the semi-truck and driving away. The suspect’s name was not included in the reports

Troopers took the suspect back to Kansas City that night, the highway patrol release said.
