Winter weather moving back in later this weekend
SATURDAY: We’re seeing a foggy start to the weekend in some locations this morning. Any places that have seen fog develop will quickly burn it off with mostly sunny skies this morning. Plenty of sunshine and winds out of the southwest will help us warm in the afternoon to the upper 50s and low 60s. Today will easily be the best day to get out and knock out some errands this weekend.
TONIGHT: Clouds will start to increase this evening and into the overnight hours. These clouds keep us mild overnight with temperatures dipping into the low to mid 40s. Winds will start to turn out of a more easterly direction with a low pressure system moving closer to Mid-Missouri.
EXTENDED: The quiet weather we see today will come to an abrupt end Sunday. Temperatures will start out in the low to mid 40s Sunday morning, but will start falling throughout the day behind strong northwesterly winds, gusting at times up to 40 mph. Rain in the morning will change over to snow by the afternoon, creating a dangerous travel situation with blowing snow severely reducing visibility. Macon county is currently the only county in Mid-Missouri under a Winter Storm Warning from 9 AM to 9 PM, where snowfall rates will be the heaviest and visibility reduced. The best chance of seeing any accumulating snow will be north of I-70, with minimal winter weather impacts further south. If you have travel plans for Sunday into Monday, keep an eye on this forecast as the exact location may fluctuate. All of us will be feeling the cold behind this system, however. Temperatures for the first part of next week will be stuck in the mid 30s, with our next system moving in Wednesday night into Thursday.
