Travel impacts are expected into the weekend, including rain and snow
BLACK FRIDAY: Rain is likely near Hwy 65 as early as 8 AM and will gradually spread to the east through the day. While the first part of the morning will be dry for some parts of the region, everyone will see widespread rain through the day. With clouds and rain remaining through Friday, temperatures will remain in the upper 40s through most of the afternoon hours, with wind chills in the upper 30s and lower 40s. It’ll be a windy day as well, with winds gusting out of the south up to 26 mph. Rainfall amounts will amount to less than .60″ for all of Mid-Missouri and will come to an end into Friday evening.
TONIGHT: Clouds break up a bit through the night providing for partly cloudy skies as temperatures dip back into the upper 30s. Winds will shift out of the west through the night, breezy at times with gusts up to 20 mph.
EXTENDED: Saturday looks dry and mild with highs in the mid to upper 50s under partly sunny skies. Another storm system moving in from the southwest will bring a chance of rain Sunday followed by colder air. Sunday is a Weather Aware Day with potentially impactful weather that could cause some issues. As the colder air moves in with breezy winds shifting out of the northwest, the rain is expected to change over to snow by late morning and into the afternoon. Right now it looks more likely to see snow in areas north of I-70 but this could change depending on where the storm system ends up. Impacts look minimal for most of Mid-Missouri, but if you are traveling north into the weekend, you may want to leave earlier. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Chariton and Macon Counties Sunday from 6 AM until 9 PM. The greatest impacts will be felt along and north of Hwy 24. Snowfall amounts could be up to 3+” in our northern counties. Along the I-70 corridor 1-2″ can be expected. The track of this system will cause fluctuations in these snowfall totals. What we will be watching for is windy conditions Sunday, with winds gusting up to 35 mph. This will allow for reduced visibility with actively falling snowfall. High winds will create some travel impacts, especially on highways and interstates. If you have travel plans for Sunday into Monday, keep an eye on the forecast. The start of next week looks cold with highs only in the 30s and nights in the lower 20s as the winter weather pattern returns.
