Man killed Jefferson City shooting identified

Jefferson City police are looking for suspects in two separate shootings, one of them fatal.

Officers were sent a little after 6 p.m. Monday to the 1900 block of Stadium Boulevard after getting several calls that a person had been shot.

“Witnesses and callers reported multiple gunshots. We’re still trying to find out how many people were involved and how many weapons,” Jefferson City Police Department Lt. David Williams said.

Police found a 19-year-old Jefferson City man dead from a gunshot wound inside a home, the department said in a news release. The department later identified him as Nilez R. Nichols.

“There were several gunshot wounds to the victim,” Williams said.

The victim of last night’s homicide has been identified as Nilez R. Nichols. As previously reported, the victim is a 19 year old Jefferson City resident.

Williams said the death is being investigated as a homicide. It’s the fifth homicide in Jefferson City this year.

Witnesses described three men leaving the scene after the shooting, police said, but they had no detailed description of the men. Officers canvassed the area but could not find them, the department said.

“Some of the witnesses say they saw three black male subjects running from the area, immediately after the gunshots. Right now, we’re trying to identify those people and see what their involvement was,” Williams said.

Jefferson City officers were sent to another shooting a little before 3 a.m. Tuesday, this time in the 500 block of East Elm Street. Police found a 20-year-old Jefferson City woman covered in blood from a single gunshot wound to her right shoulder, according to the release.

“The two shootings are not related,” Williams said.

She was taken to Capital Region Medical Center then to University of Missouri Hospital. It wasn’t clear from the release how severe her injuries were. Police determined the shooting happened during a domestic dispute, the release said.

Police are looking for Quency Floyd, 21, of Jefferson City in connection with the domestic shooting. Floyd has a warrant out for his arrest on charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

The shootings are the ninth and 10th this year in Jefferson City.
