Mizzou guard Mark Smith eligible to play immediately

Head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Mizzou guard Mark Smith received a waiver from the NCAA on Friday, granting him immediate eligibility.

Smith has three years of eligibility left after playing his freshman campaign at Illinois.

Smith made 19 starts in 31 game appearances with the Illini. He averaged 5.7 points and 1.4 assists per game per game as a freshman. He shot 79.6 percent from the free throw line and reached double figures six times.

According to an MU spokesperson, the team has not heard about the status of Dru Smith’s waiver. Cuonzo Martin and the team filed a waiver with the NCAA trying to get him eligible for the 2018-19 season.

Mizzou opens the season Nov. 6 against Central Arkansas.
