Cox wins gold medal at World Championships
Former Mizzou wrestler J’den Cox won the gold medal at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships on Monday.
Cox defeated Ivan Yankouski (Belarus) 4-1 in the 92 kg final to capture his first ever gold medal on the national stage. He also has two bronze medals (2016 Olympics and 2017 World Championships).
In total, Cox won four matches at this year’s World Championships.
Round of 16: Cox defeated Dato Marsagishvili (Georgia) 6-2
Quarterfinals: Cox defeated Nicolae Ceban (Moldova) 6-0
Semifinals: Cox defeated Alireza Karimimachiani (Iran) 5-2
Finals: Cox defeated Ivan Yankouski (Belarus) 4-1
The former Tiger is a three-time national champion. He also won four MSHSAA state championships while attending Columbia’s Hickman High School.
Cox is the first Mid-Missourian to win a gold medal on the national stage since Eldon native Christian Cantwell won a gold medal in shot put at the 2009 World Outdoor Championships.
