Charger caused Boone County house fire

UPDATE 10:26 A.M.: A fire early Friday at a Boone County home was caused by a charger for a vaping device, a county fire official said.

Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the fire caused about $100,000 in damage, but the two women who lived in the duplex were alerted by a smoke alarm and escaped. Firefighters rescued a dog from the home.

Vaping devices heat up liquid, often containing nicotine, that is turned into vapor and inhaled.

ORIGINAL: No one is injured after an early morning fire Friday damaged a home just north of Columbia.

Firefighters responded to a duplex just before 1 a.m. on Country Squire Court, just off North Creasy Springs Road.

Crews found smoke coming from the home and flames in the kitchen, according to the Boone County Fire Protection District.

Everyone in the home at the time of the fire was able to get out safely. Firefighters rescued a dog from the duplex.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
