Former CPS officer pleads guilty in theft case

The former chief financial officer of Columbia Public Schools pleaded guilty Thursday to taking money from a band booster club in the St. Louis area.

Anna Munson pleaded guilty to a single felony count of receiving stolen property in St. Louis County, prosecutor Edward McSweeney said. She faces up to seven years in prison and an unknown amount of restitution when she is sentenced Dec. 13, he said.

St. Louis County officials issued a felony warrant for Munson’s arrest in February. She had lived and work there before she was hired at Columbia Public Schools in May 2017. She resigned from her position at CPS in March.

Authorities accused Munson of making at least $17,500 in undocumented ATM withdrawals from the bank account of the Marquette Band Boosters at Marquette High School in Chesterfield between April 4, 2015 and Aug. 12, 2016. Investigators said she also made several purchases using the club’s credit/debit card that were not legitimate. Munson was the club’s treasurer.
