North Callaway firefighter recovering after getting serious head injury

A North Callaway volunteer fireman is on the road to recovery Sunday evening after he got seriously hurt on a call Friday.

According to the department, Tim Hays received a significant head injury and will be out of work for an undetermined amount of time.

The North Callaway Fire Protection District has been posting regular updates about Hays’ condition on its Facebook page. Hays had surgery on Saturday afternoon and was “making good progress.”

As of Sunday morning he was doing well and “for the first time since his injury followed commands; he gave a thumbs up.”

He is now off his breathing tube and while he is still pretty restless, the department said he is making positive steps.

The department is raising money for his family, and a Facebook page has been set up for donations. You can find the link here.

So far, they have raised more than $4,700 of a $7,000 goal since the donation page was set up Saturday.
