More showers and thunderstorms for Mid-Missouri

SUNDAY: We’re seeing some spotty showers this morning with an isolated rumble of thunder to start our Sunday. These showers are occurring north of a slow-moving warm front as bits of upper-level energy interact with it. Showers and some isolated storms will continue through the morning hours, with the best chance of seeing rain in the northwestern half of the viewing area. Further south and east we’ll warm into the middle to some upper 70s, with a little less rain and cloud cover. As we head into the afternoon, some models are depicting an increase in thunderstorm activity east of HWY 63. Like yesterday, we could see some stronger isolated cells with a strong wind gust and heavy downpours, but severe storms are not expected.

TONIGHT: As this warm front continues to lift northward, it will slowly clear us of precipitation this evening. By midnight, we should be clear of any rain in the entire viewing area. Lows will drop to the middle to upper 60s as clouds slowly filter out of Mid-Missouri.

EXTENDED: We’ll be warm and humid on Columbus Day as temperatures will climb back into the middle 80s with partly cloudy skies. Clouds will be on the increase out ahead of our next approaching system. This cold front will move through the area Tuesday afternoon and into the overnight hours. There is a severe threat with this front, as out ahead of it we will have an unstable airmass in place. Main threat will be damaging winds as this system sweeps through. Behind it, temperatures will feel more like fall finally with highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the 40s. Keep up to date with the latest forecast on-air and online with ABC 17 News.
