Columbia man pleads guilty to manslaughter in fatal shooting

A Columbia man pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm in a September 2017 shooting death in northeast Columbia.

Humphrey was initially charged with second-degree murder in addition to the weapon charge in the killing of Nathan Taylor in the 1800 block of McKee Street. Court records say witnesses told investigators Humphrey was involved in the murder and saw the same style truck he’s known to drive at the scene shortly before the shooting.

Another man, Jamale Marteen, was charged with evidence tampering for allegedly deleting a text message from Humphrey. A trial in his case is set for next week.

Humphrey was arrested during a traffic stop a few days after the shooting. Investigators said they had determined Taylor and Humphrey were in an argument before the shooting.

Sentencing is set for 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15.
