The Networks of Mid-Missouri to broadcast Columbia High School Football Games

The Networks of Mid-Missouri will broadcast a slate of three Columbia Public Schools football games this month starting this Friday when the Battle Spartans host the Rock Bridge Bruins. Friday’s game is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m. and will air on MY zou TV (17.3).

The broadcast is possible through a unique partnership between the television stations, the Columbia Career Center and Columbia Public Schools. Students in the career center’s broadcast program will operate the cameras for the game while station staff will produce and direct the game. Longtime Columbia sports play-by-play voice Tex Little will have the call while a career center student assists him with commentary in the booth.

” I’m excited to bring this live local sporting event to Columbia,” said Curtis Varns, General Manager of The Networks of Mid-Missouri. “It’s a terrific opportunity to work with Columbia kids to produce a game being played by Columbia kids. It puts a smile on my face and I think it’s a win-win for the community,” said Varns.

” We’re proud of the work our students do in the classroom and on the athletic field,” said Bruce Whitesides, Director of Athletics for Columbia Public Schools. “This joint venture between the school system and The Networks of Mid-Missouri is an excellent way to showcase their talents,” said Whitesides.

The stations plan to broadcast two more games this year. Right now, the September 21 contest between Hickman and Rock Bridge and the September 28 matchup between Battle Hickman are on the broadcast slate.
