Tracking dangerous heat, few storms Wednesday

TONIGHT: Muggy and hot, increasing clouds. Lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy, hot, and humid with highs near 100. Heat index between 105-107. Scattered storms possible by late afternoon or evening north of I-70.

EXTENDED: The Weather Alert Day has been extended through Thursday night with another day of high temperatures in the upper 90s and heat indices in the 105-107 range. A front settled to our north that has been bringing rounds of thunderstorms to the upper Plains and upper Great Lakes the last few days will slowly meander in our direction, providing a chance of at least scattered storms from tomorrow evening through Saturday morning, with dry time in between. A few storms could produce small hail and gusty winds the next two days, but widespread severe weather isn't expected at this time. The best chance to see measurable precipitation will be along and north of I-70. Rain amounts there will range from 1-1.5", with lesser amounts farther south. The front is expected to dive south of us by Saturday morning, leaving us slightly cooler and less humid with temperatures topping out at around 90 on Saturday. Sunday is looking bright and hot with a high in the low 90s. Another cold front works through the area Monday night into Tuesday, but it won't do much for us temperature wise as I'm expecting temperatures to remain in the 90s next week, at least for the first half. Rain chances will be a little more likely as the upper pattern over Mid-Missouri will be a bit more northwesterly. That wind shift will also give us lower humidity, which will be a comfortable change.
