Truck does serious damage to Moberly Eagles building

A man was taken into custody early Friday after allegedly hitting a building with his pick-up truck and driving away.

Moberly police were sent to 1408 N. Morley St. at 5:12 a.m. and determined a 2001 Dodge truck failed to stop at a stop sign on Sparks Avenue, drove across North Morley Street and hit the Fraternal Order of Eagles building, Moberly Police Department Chief Troy Link said in a news release. The crash caused serious damage to the building’s west wall.

Witnesses said the truck backed onto Morley Street and drove away after striking the building and was last seen traveling south. Police found the truck and its 57-year-old driver and took him into custody, Link wrote. Link did not name or driver or say whether he was booked into jail.

The driver suffered minor injuries. A damage estimate was not available.
