Tracking a warmer afternoon, late-week relief

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly sunny and muggy, with a heat index in the low 90s.

TONIGHT: Clear and a little cooler, with lows falling to the mid-60s.

EXTENDED: A cold front is moving through the area today, but rain chances remain south of the area. Behind that front, temperatures will drop a few degrees through the end of the week, with highs in the mid to lower 80s on Thursday and Friday. As high pressure settles in this weekend, summer heat returns and temperatures climb to near 90 by Sunday into next week.
