Columbia firefighters extricate driver in rollover crash

Columbia firefighters had to perform an extrication after a driver crashed through two fences, causing the vehicle to roll over and land on its side Saturday.

Crews responded to the back of a neighborhood near the intersection of Blue Ridge and Providence roads around 11 a.m. for reports of a crash.

Firefighters said one vehicle was involved with only one occupant. The driver was transported to a local hospital.

The driver crashed into a small tree, a light pole and two fences before the vehicle rolled and landed on its side in the back of someone’s yard.

Columbia police are investigating the cause of the crash. Police at the scene said no one was in their backyard at the time of the crash, and the driver was the only person injured.

Police didn’t know the extent of the driver’s injuries.

First responders blocked off the intersection of Blue Ridge and Providence roads for about two hours while the crash scene was being cleared.
