Tracking rain chances for some but not all

TODAY: We are tracking a few rain and thunderstorm chances today, with two potential rounds both focused in the southeast. An upper-level shortwave will support a limited shower and thunderstorm chance this morning. This will wind down or exit by 9 a.m. to noon, before a cold front drifting in from the north instigates isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. This rain may linger in Mid-Missouri through 9 p.m. The overall rain chance in Columbia and Jefferson City is low; however, with a rain chance around 20%. Temperatures are similar to Tuesday, as we expect highs in the upper 80s.

TONIGHT: Further behind the cold front, north winds fill in cooler and drier air overnight. Temperatures fall into the low 60s, along with dew points.

EXTENDED: As temperatures climb into the mid-80s in the afternoon, dew points may lower further into the low 60s or even high 50s. Either way, a more comfortable set of days is returning for Thursday and Friday. Saturday will be a slight warm-up into the upper 80s under continued sunny skies. Sunshine pairs with more warmth and humidity on Sunday to make a hot start to next week. Highs in the 90s, with heat indexes in the upper 90s, are likely Sunday through Tuesday.
